(About the Studio) Workshops – Inspiring Creativity with Cranach
With “HANDS ON CRANACH – At Work in the Studio” the POP UP CRANACH exhibition is sparking creative inspiration in visitors. Running concurrently with the hands-on exhibition at the Gemäldegalerie, Alice – Museum for Children at the FEZ Berlin is holding an extensive series of workshops in Wuhlheide for both schoolchildren and families from 26 September 2014 until 12 April 2015. The artists’ studio wants to prove that the 500 year ‘old’ energy of the Cranach workshop can still unleash new powers and creativity today.
In a 400m2 studio at the FEZ modern and traditional artistic techniques will be applied in order to create something new and unique in the spirit of the Cranachs. Accompanied by ten Berlin artists working within tape art, sculpture, video, graphic design, drawing and painting, children and young people can explore both the world of the Cranachs and their own creativity – like in a laboratory, they will experiment, mix things together and give life to something new and seemingly impossible. Here everyone can experience the fact that in art there are (almost) no limits.
There will be painting, mixing, printing and collages. Perhaps all this will be inspired by Cranach’s “Fountain of Life”, by the sleeping Hercules or simply by the participants’ own thoughts and dreams. And there will be another treat in store at the end of “HANDS ON CRANACH – At Work in the Studio” when child curators will create their own exhibition. Because ultimately every Old Master was once… a Young Master.
